Practicum #4- Julia

As I continued my research on info about the Tea Party and how its supporters and organizers use the internet and social media, I stumbled upon this website: OhioTeaParty.com. Joanne Babcock, my online alter-ego, is from Cleveland, OH and so I decided to find out how she would be able to go about becoming active in her local Tea Party movement if she wanted to.

The Ohio Tea Party's website is fascinating. What sticks out to me the most about this site is the fact that this local Tea Party group has its very own social networking site! At the top right corner of the homepage, there are 3 options: Home, Calendar, Communicate - highlighting the main functions of the site. Inside "Communicate" you can communicate with other Tea Party supporters in your area in a similar manner to that of Facebook, sharing videos and discussing topics. "Calendar" allows you to view and sign up for events near you, a feature that truly exemplifies the nature of the Tea Party movement: a political movement almost entirely driven by online involvement and recruitment.
