Blog #7: Track every computerized thing you interact with in an evening...

Last night, 12/4, I decided to stay in on a Saturday night...obviously it was filled with computerized interactions.

8:00pm: Looked up places to order-in dinner from with a friend on www.straight2yourdoor.com, placed order online. (Food arrives in 30 minutes!)

8:15-9:00pm: Simultaneously watched Intervention (on TV) while checking Facebook, reading emails both on my computer and on my Blackberry. (Why I feel the need to read emails on my computer AND Blackberry, I don't know!)

9:00pm - 9:30pm: While hanging out with friends, computer is put away but I casually check Twitter on my Blackberry, and use Blackberry messenger and text messaging to contact other friends.

10:00pm: head over to a friends house to hang out, watch TV, and casually use my Blackberry to browse the web (boring conversations!)

11:30pm: head home, watch episodes of The Office and Parenthood on my computer on Hulu.com and www.free-tv-video-online.me (Project Free TV) until I fall asleep.

I think this pretty much represents a lot of what we've been learning about in terms of a movement away from using computers to access the world wide web, towards utilizing smart phones to access social media.

  1. I found when I wrote my blog that I too use my Droid literally every hour of everyday. I'm either checking my email/facebook/twitter/you name it. This made me realize how much I am switching to using my smartphone as much, if not more, than I usually use my laptop.
