Plants vs. Zombies

Playing this game took me back, waaaay back to the days when I used to play tons of mindless computer/internet games, instead of doing my homework. After Monday's lecture, however, I have a totally different view of these seemingly silly games. They are ridden with advertisements, on side panels, while your waiting for the game to start. So it completely makes sense why they are part of a billion-dollar industry. At first, I didn't know if I was playing the right game or playing a game provided by some advertisement! Nevertheless, I do see how Plants vs. Zombies and other games of this genre can be highly addictive. I also understand Gee's argument, that online games can be educational - at the most simple level, Plants vs. Zombies could potentially teach kids the basic principles of horticulture! However, it was still rather difficult for the game to hold my attention for very long. Hopefully that's a good thing!

  1. I also used to totally under estimate those silly games just as you did. But it is amazing to learn that this kind of games is a billion-dollar industry just as you said. I personally approved the addictiveness of these games as well. And time just seems to go faster when playing those games.
